Terri
I began working
in the human medical field in 1983 at a walk-in medical
facility. I met my husband, Steve, in 1984 and we were married
and moved to Blacksburg so he could attend The Virginia-Maryland
Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. We moved back to
Richmond when he graduated and he worked in a small animal
practice for about 10 years before deciding to open his own
practice. We opened Springfield Veterinary Center in 2000 and I
have been managing the practice and working at the front desk
since that time. I am not at the practice as much now because I
spend most of my time taking care of our three children and our
farm, including 7 horses, 4 goats, 2 cats and 3 dogs. I have
enjoyed working with the professional and caring staff we have
at Springfield and have enjoyed getting to know our many
wonderful clients.

Gail
Office Manager
I moved to
Richmond to attend VCU’s school of Social Work, receiving an
M.S.W. in 1980. Following years in social work, and years of
full-time, at home, mothering, I began volunteering at a
veterinary hospital near my home. I found that I loved being
around animal loving people as much as I loved being around
animals. I joined the staff of Springfield Veterinary Center in
June of 2001 and have worked in many capacities here. Now my
role is to help the hospital run smoothly while the doctors and
staff provide the best in quality care to our patients. Away
from work I enjoy time with my human (husband, 2 teens) and
animal (3 dogs, 2 cats) family members.

Administrative Staff
I was born in Germany and lived
abroad with my family most of my childhood. I moved to Richmond
in 1975 after graduating from Old Dominion University with a
B.S. in Nursing. Most of my career I was employed at a busy OB/GYN
office. I have two daughters; one who is a kindergarten teacher
in the area and another who is attending James Madison
University. I decided to take a break from nursing and do
something I have always loved; being around and helping to take
care of four legged patients! My three year old Cairn terrier,
Miss Sallie, loves to come and visit me at work from time to
time. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a
growing practice and work alongside such warm and caring
professionals.

I graduated from
Blue Ridge Community College’s Veterinary Technician Program and
became licensed in 1997. I enjoy working with dogs and cats and
have also worked with exotic pets. My special interests include
educating new puppy owners, canine behavior and canine
reproduction. I live with my husband, Chris, who is also a
licensed veterinary technician. We share our home with three
cats (Skittles, Cruiser, and Gilby) and three dogs (Chance,
Barkley, and Josie- all Bernese Mountain Dogs). I am an active
member of the Potomac Valley Bernese Mountain Dog Club, the BMD
Club of Central Virginia and the BMD Club of America. In my free
time I enjoy showing my dogs in AKC conformation dog shows and
training them in obedience, carting (drafting), rally obedience
and agility. |

Licensed Veterinary Technician
My interests with
the veterinary field began in 1997 working as an assistant with
both Dr. Escobar and Dr. Scotti. My love for animals never
wavered so I pursued a degree in Veterinary Technology at Blue
Ridge Community College, graduating in 2002. I worked in
emergency medicine after graduation, and then came home to
Springfield Veterinary Center. My interests consist of rally,
obedience, and veterinary dentistry. I have an awesome, and no I
am not biased, Labrador Retriever named Franklin.

Licensed
Veterinary Technician
My career as a
veterinary technician was an unexpected, yet pleasant surprise.
I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2001
with a Bachelors of Science. While job hunting, I decided to
volunteer with Operation Catnip and gain some experience before
submitting my resume to Springfield Veterinary Center for a
veterinary assistant position. I interviewed and was offered the
position in September 2001. There wasn’t a day that I wasn’t
excited about going to work, which lead me to believe I had
found my niche. I graduated from Blue Ridge Community College’s
distance education program in May 2005 to become a licensed
veterinary technician. I look forward to going to work every
day. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my
husband, Mark, our son, Landis, running, cycling, and putting on
our own events.

Licensed
Veterinary Technician
I started my
career working with small animals and exotics in 1989 in
Northern Virginia at the Companion Animal Hospital. After
graduating in 1997 from Virginia Tech with a B.A. in English, I
returned to my veterinary assistant position in NOVA where I
worked until my move to Richmond in 2000. While working at the
Virginia Equine Clinic, I was fortunate to start the Veterinary
Technician program through the Blue Ridge Community College
which I continued until graduation in May 2005. Though I enjoyed
working with horses, my love for small animals ultimately
prevailed leading me to my current position at Springfield
Veterinary Center in 2003. I enjoy running and spending quality
time with my family, Brittany Spaniel Nita, and Cat Oliver. |

I first
moved to the Richmond area in 1999 but left for several years
before returning in early 2007 and started work at Springfield
Veterinary Center. I share my life and home with several rescued
family members. Oliver (a red tabby female kitty), Truffles (a
cream Saluki male), and Money (a red fawn retired racing
greyhound) and I recently lost my 18 + year old beagle, Abby. I
enjoy spending my time with my family, both furry and not,
reading and promoting the adoption of retired racing greyhounds.

Laurence
Veterinary Assistant
A native of
Richmond I spent 15 years working in the advertising industry.
In 2004 I began volunteering at the Richmond SPCA because of my
love for animals and to feel like I was doing something
worthwhile with my time. I soon realized that I wanted to do
more than just walk dogs at the SPCA. I talked to Drs. Escobar
and Scotti about a career in the veterinary field; they
encouraged me to come in and observe to make sure the veterinary
profession was for me. I am now a full-time employee at
Springfield Veterinary Center and am currently working towards
becoming a licensed Veterinary Technician. I am married, and
have three four legged children, a cat (named Turtle), a Great
Dane (Ellwood), and a Chihuahua (Sabrina). My wife Mary and I
also enjoy fostering animals for various volunteer
organizations.

I started working for Springfield Veterinary
Center in September 2005 as an Administrative Assistant. In
September 2007 I am very excited to say I started working as a
Veterinary Assistant here at Springfield. I have two children,
my dog Kyah, a cat named Bug, and a Cockatoo Fluffy. I am hoping
to attend the Blue Ridge Veterinary Technician Distance program
in September 2008 to achieve my goal to become a Licensed
Veterinary Technician. I know I am very blessed to have found
what I love to do as a career and do it with the most amazing
group of people!

Julia
Veterinary Assistant
I have lived in
Richmond all my life. When I was 12 I started volunteering at
the Richmond Animal League. I loved being able to spend my
Saturdays surrounded by dogs and cats. I am currently a student
at Virginia Commonwealth University. I’m working on my biology
major so that I can one day go to veterinary school. Dr.
Escobar and Dr. Scotti are kind enough to let me gain experience
by working for them. Everyone here at Springfield truly cares
about the animals and their owners. I feel very fortunate to
have been given the opportunity to work with such wonderful
people.
